August was a pretty fun month except for trying to beat the heat and the mosquitoes!!! I've seen emails about West Nile in our area so it's made a little nervous about the kids playing outside all the time but at least when they go out in the middle of the day its incredibly hot so I'm hoping the mosquitoes aren't out much then. At the end of August we took advantage of all the schools being back in session (except for the preschools) and went out and about to the Blue Bell Factory in Brenham for a tour and ice cream and the Houston Museum of Natural Science to check out the new paleontology section with all the dinosaur skeletons! The kids loved it and I loved it too because with everyone being in school it was empty! It felt like we were there after hours, which I love because I do not like crowds! Much easier to keep up with Sibley and Wyatt when there aren't as many people! I had a friend recently say that showing up to a public place while there is hardly anyone there is like winning the lottery! I completely agree with that statement!
I'm also VERY ready for school to start though!!! They are really starting to get on each other's nerves (and mine) and I'm also dealing with Wyatt's terrible 2's stage. Some of the new things he likes to say is "no" to everything, "you're rediculus" (yes pronounced like that), or when I tell him it's time to eat dinner, he says "NO! I don't eat dinner anymore!" Or if he's doing something wrong and I tell him, "No, we don't do that" he says "Yes we do!" He is getting to be a handful and a half! But it doesn't help that he hasn't been wanting to nap. He would fight me everyday about taking a nap and when he finally fell asleep it would be around 3:00 then he would stay up until 9 or 10! So I decided to let him just skip nap and then he goes to bed at 6:30 or 6:45, which I don't mind at all! It's makes for a pretty peaceful evening! But the kids are ready to start school too, especially Sibley because she's starting pre-k and she is very excited about being in the "big girl" class! She knows that's the oldest class at her school so she thinks she is definitely the big girl on campus! She starts Sept. 4 and Wyatt starts Sept. 5. Sibley will go everyday from 9-12, which the option of staying until 2 on Mon-Thurs. and Wyatt will go Mon, Wed, Fri. 9-12, which the option of staying until 2 on Mon. and Wed. So it's a good introduction to elementary school for Sibley. This will be a big change for her because she has always gone 2 days a week so we'll see how she does!
So here are some pictures of our fun in August!
| Playing at the Houston Zoo! This is the first time we tried out the splash pad area! We went at about 4:00 during the week so it wasn't crowded at all! The kids had fun! |
| At Lupe Tortilla with their cousin's Reeves and Baylie! Enjoying ice cream in the sand - you can imagine how that turned out...a big mess!!! |
| Riding the bull on our way out! Reeves, Baylie, Sibley and Wyatt! |
| Playing at a friends house |
| This is Wyatt when we took Callie to the vet. He decided he wanted to get in the carrier with Callie! |
| Sibley was recently given a box of candy cigarettes! I didn't know they even still made these things! |
| Uncle Mark enjoying one of the cigs! He was "riding a motorcycle" while enjoying the cigarette and note the box in the shirt sleeve! |
| Nonno tried one out too! |
| Sibley's HUGE catch at Nonni and Nonno's house! |
| A little bigger catch, except this one cut her hand a little with one of its fins. Tears everywhere! |
| Wyatt's first catch ever!!!! |
| Sibley and Wyatt at Blue Bell! |
| Since he couldn't go with us, Justin decided to get in the spirit of Blue Bell while doing some work at home. |
| Sibley, Wyatt and our friend Will about to go into the butterfly museum at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. |
| Hard to tell but a butterfly landed on Sibley's hand! |
| We're teaching him early! Wyatt decided he wanted to help Daddy mow the lawn! |
| And this is a result of Wyatt not napping. He was pitching a fit about his dinner and threw himself to the ground. I was ignoring him and a few minutes later this is how I found him. He was out cold. |
| Gymnast Sibley before she went to a gymnastics birthday party! She loves to pose for the camera! |
| Wyatt and Justin in their matching camo shorts! He loves matching daddy! |
| Sibley and her "boyfriend" Hank. She says she's going to marry Hank so Hank's mommy, Ms. Mary, dressed them up like a king and queen and of course Sibley said they were having their wedding! |
| Taking a stroll in the neighborhood and walking their doggies! |
| Well, she did it! Sibley got her ears pierced! I've told her for a while now that when she's ready she could get her ears pierced. I also told her that it would hurt and it's like getting a shot. For the longest time she kept saying "I think when I'm older. Maybe 5. Or 6, I don't know." But the other night after she was already in bed with the door shut, she calls for me. I go in thinking she's going to ask me to cuddle some more and I'm going to have to make another excuse about needing to take a shower or something so she'll just go to bed and she tells me, "I'm want to get my ears pierced." I tell her, "that's fine, if you're ready but we'll talk about it tomorrow." She gets all upset and says, "no I really want to get my ears pierced right now." I told her how we have to make and appt. at the doctors and then we can go (our doctor does it now, much better then a kiosk in the mall or Claire's!). So I remind her again that it's going to hurt but it will be fast and then we have to take care of them and we can't take them out for a really long time because I know her motive behind all this was to be able to wear big dangling earrings! So after she had all the rules understood, off we went! She really didn't even cry, just some watery eyes! She loves showing them off to people too! |
| Finally some boy dress up clothes, thanks to Hank! Spiderman!!! |
| And he's back to doing girl things. He's fixing Sibley's hair with her hair straightener. |
